On Sunday night each hall brought herds of wide-eyed Freshers, decked in hall shirts and face paint, to the infamous Clan Warfare event. With every hall organising their own events before hand to get their residents in a fighting spirit, Clan Warfare proved to be a popular choice.

On the stage of the newly renovated Club 601 were representatives from each hall, fueling the crowd: each representative delivered their hall chant, greeted by cheers from enthusiastic Freshers and older students alike. St Salvators and McIntosh Hall delivered the biggest display of hall pride: the red and silver Sallies colours were easily identifiable throughout the entire night, though in the spirit of Clan Warfare, booing could be heard between rival halls. It seemed that Agnes Blackadder Hall as well as Andrew Mellville were under-represented throughout the night, though the few who could be seen in their hall colours definitely gave the rest of the halls a run for their money.
Ultimately, last night’s event showcased the very best of St Andrews hall pride. It is no secret that compared to universities in the US, school spirit at St Andrews is scarce. With the absence of pep rallies and football games, this small town may not explicitly display the college-enthusiasm many hoped for. Yet Clan Warfare proved to homesick Americans that St Andrews, too, has a real sense of university pride. Overall, the event was impressively well delivered and gave Freshers a taste of hall spirit that should last the year to come.
